ON THE SET
When this page went up, I offered to provide information to anyone interested in working as an extra. I live and work in Los Angeles, but was surprised to receive requests from places like New York and Toronto. Click here for my information page on working as an extra in Los Angeles. I'll be adding information about other places later. If you find any of this advice helpful, please let me know.
UPDATE 2005: At some point I'm going to revamp this page. Extra work is more of a part-time job for me now and I'm trying to pick up more "serious" acting gigs when I can. My acting resume is here.
After swearing off "responsible jobs" like middle-management and human resources, I've found myself trying out a variety of jobs. One that I've enjoyed most is working as a movie/television extra. The first thing an extra learns is how to keep himself occupied during the long breaks when he's not on camera. This page will be dedicated to thoughts and sketches from the "glamorous" world of the Hollywood extra.
Extras are also called "background artists" and "atmosphere". Atmosphere is a pretty dopey term. I decided to take it to it's natural end.
